Frequently Asked Question

• How do I enter?

  Just leave a comment on UnboxTherapy's video. That's it.

  If you feel like it, tell us which device you prefer (Galaxy S7 or iPhone 6s) and why. However, this is not necessary, as we will contact all winners, asking for their phone of choice.

• Will I be disqualified if I leave multiple comments?

  Absolutely not \u2013 but it won't increase your odds of winning. We'll be filtering out multiple entries made by the same account to ensure each participant has an equal opportunity.

• Why does every winner on this page have subscribers? Do I have to have subscribers in order to win?

  Of course you don't. Again, the selection is 100% random and solely based on the list of comments. In fact, many of the winners that have been selected had zero subscribers before we posted a link to their channel for everyone to see.

  The reason every winner has subscribers after we post their channel link is because there are hundreds of thousands (sometimes more than a million) users who visit this page every day. Just like yourself, many end up clicking on the profiles of the winners and some even end up subscribing to their channels.

• Is the giveaway open worldwide?

  Of course. We'll even ship to North Korea if you've somehow managed to gain internet access.

• How frequently are you selecting winners?

  Every day at 12:00, 15:00, 18:00, and 21:00 EDT.

• How are winners selected?

  Randomly, from the comments section on UnboxTherapy's video, using a custom script.

• How do we know it's truly random?

  We're using a custom Python script which was specifically programmed for this giveaway. It uses the YouTube Data API to download all comments posted on the giveaway video, as well as the associated account for each comment.

  While a full list of the comments is being downloaded, a second list of unique YouTube accounts is being generated. Once this process is finished, we are left with a complete list of all accounts which have posted one or more comments.

  From this pool of unique accounts, a random entry is picked using a randomly generated seed based on the NumPy project. This random selection is the resulting winner. We then use the stored YouTube Data to fetch the associated account details (Comment ID, Name, Channel URL).

  For every subsequent winner selection, the script will run again. This triggers the YouTube API comment download process again. The script will download the newest comment posted and keep going until it reaches the comments which were downloaded during the previous run. What this does is save us from having to download 1,000,000+ comments every time we select a winner \u2013 while also ensuring that everyone is included for each randomly selected draw.

  Note that our script filters out multiple comments which are posted by the same account to ensure that every participant gets a fair shot at winning.

• How do I avoid being scammed?

  Never give out your credit card information to anyone... especially not to any account asking you to \u201ccover the shipping fees.\u201d We'll never ask for this. The best way to avoid getting scammed is to check this page when we tweet that a new winner has been announced. If you see your name listed under Winners, click the link to ensure it's actually your YouTube account (and not someone with the same display name). If it really is your account, congratulations! • How are winners shipped?

  All winners are shipped via FedEx with tracking. If you win, you'll receive the tracking number once your prize is shipped.

• If I win, can I choose what color and type of device for my prize?

  Chances are, we'll already know the type of device based on your winning YouTube comment. As for color, it's first-come, first-serve. If there are any devices remaining in your requested color, we'll absolutely be happy to accommodate.

• If I win, will I have to pay anything to receive the prize (shipping costs, duties, taxes, etc.)?

  Of course not. Everything is pre-paid.

• If I win, can I use my existing SIM card on the device?

  Yes. Every device we're shipping is fully unlocked, carrier-free.

• If I win, do I have to do anything once I receive the device?

  Tweet out a photo to @UnboxTherapy and @dbrand to verify that you've received your prize.

• If I send you dozens of emails begging for a device, will it improve my odds of winning?

  No. Please stop. We won't acknowledge or reply to any emails asking to be picked as a winner. Selection is 100% random.

• Is dbrand really run by robots?
